Rediscover the Desktop
Native Integration
April 30, 2007: A great new release (1.0.1) is out. Process management of Jar files, shiny icons, fixed bugs, new tools and better installation procedure. Check it out!
The main focus of the Native Integration is on making rich client Java applications first class programs of the operating system.
Currently, the DJ Project integrates JAR files to the Windows platform, with icon support and proper process management.
Tools are also provided to tweak these integration behaviors from graphical applications as well as Ant tasks. It also features a unique packer for WebStart-based applications, to allow offline installations while retaining WebStart's powerful update mechanism.
Licence: GPL
Note: the "dev" version is the "user" version plus the tools for developers.
The various functionalities are for the most part implemented for the Windows platform. They probably can be implemented for other operating systems, especially considering that the content that affects files (icon definitions in JAR files) is thought of with platform independance in mind.
